What are some non-subscription DVR’s?
I am looking for a DVR to purchase my mother for her birthday. I was considering TiVo, but I don’t think she would care to pay over $10 a month to record her soap operas. But DVD recorders and VCR’s have proven too faulty. So I was wondering if there are any DVR’s that you would recommend that are subscription free? I am looking for something under $300 and I don’t need anything that has any bells and whistles. Just something that can record her two soap opera’s and a random Lifetime show now and then. Also, it cant be any computer problem as she is around 60 and doesn’t understand PC’s.

You won’t find a cable compatible DVR that requires no service for less than that price, or any service-less DVR for that matter I think, at least that is new.
