Is “Larry” from the 1989 movie “Parenthood” talking about selling hydro?
IN the 1989 movie Parenthood, Larry’s next get rich quick scheme is “hydroponics”. When asked by Rick Moranis what type of soil, he says “I dont know, a guy in a lab coat does that, I just make the deals.” Is he talking about selling dro or am I really reaching. Incredibly creative if so, and ahead of its time

Sorry, he doesnt say what type of soil, he says “hydroponics is the growing of plants without soil, its very exciting…larry what are you using coarse sand or (something else)” I dont think it would really be promoting marijuana sales, it may have been an extremely subliminal reference because the joke is that Larry is attracted to get rich schedmes and hyrdoponics is a bit of an odd and obscure reference unless referring to my possible interpretation
Also, Im pretty aware that the term “dro” was derived from hyDROponics. I was asking if this scene was supposed to mean that Larry is involved in the distribution of hydroponics as his get rich quick scheme
Remember, this is a Ron Howard movie. He’s not going to promote, in any way, an alternate means of growing marijuana and/or selling it. I don’t think his script writers were thinking along those lines.
Hydroponics, on the other hand, has been around for a long time but within the last 30 years or so, it has really taken off. Hydroponics, as you probably know, is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. I suppose Larry was correct in his idea that there would be money to make in selling hydroponic technology to more and more consumers. Hydroponic systems offer a number of advantages when compared to soil culture. They reduce water requirements, pH levels, and nutrient stress; yield clean roots and leaves; and facilitate rapid crop turnaround and automation. But Larry was full of ideas that didn’t materialize.
