Stanley Kubrick Dvd

What is the political relevance of Kubrick’s “Dr. Strangelove” today?
I know this may be a difficult question to answer, but does anyone think the satire of “Dr. Strangelove” applied to military figures, demented politicians and the like, and the then prevalent ‘commie’ paranoia, has any relevance nowadays?
Note: Regarding another question asked about if “Dr. Strangelove” was exclusively shot in black and white, and why the large round table in the War Room was covered in green cloth, here’s a bit of trivia. The film was indeed shot totally in b/w (there were only some colour photo stills taken on the sets). Ken Adam, the production designer on that film, stated the following in the ‘making of’ DVD: Stanley Kubrick asked him specifically to cover that big table in green cloth, regardless of the fact that the movie was being shot in b/w because Kubrick wanted to make it feel like everyone sitting on that table was playing poker with the fate of the world – it was a sort of conceptual thing that Kubrick wanted to convey.
So there you have it.
Col. Kilgore Trout is still alive and well…Am I the only one who thinks “Dr. Strangelove” is the spitting image of Henry Kissinger? Slim Pickens sounds like a Texan, you reckon? After McCarthy…these guys are not political..just Corporate Inc. There must be a reckoning..as there is…in every period of History..it sort of reminds me of how in Rome..after so many years of drinking wine from lead vessels..there was no immediate turnaround..only Brain poisoning…Madness.

Lolita [Region 2] When director Stanley Kubrick released his film adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s controversial novel about a hopelessly pathetic middle-aged professor’s sexual obsession with his 12-year-old stepdaughter, the ads read, “How did they ever make a film of Lolita?” The answer is “they” didn’t. 2001: A Space Odyssey [VHS] $4.12 When Stanley Kubrick recruited Arthur C. Clarke to collaborate on “the proverbial intelligent science fiction film,” it’s a safe bet neither the maverick auteur nor the great science fiction writer knew they would virtually redefine the parameters of the cinema experience. A daring experiment in unconventional narrative inspired by Clarke’s short story “The Sentinel,” 2001 is a visual tone poem (b… |

Killing [VHS] $1.61 Stanley Kubrick’s third feature, and first screen classic, is one of the great crime films of the 1950s. The Killing was written in collaboration with Jim Thompson, who penned pulp novels like The Grifters, The Killer Inside Me, and Pop. 1280, all of which were made into classic films. This time writing directly for the screen, Thompson joined with Kubrick to concoct a story about a desperate gang… |
